Who Am I vs. What Am I

Many are perplexed by the question, "Who Am I vs What Am I?" What Am I is defined by my vocation but Who Am I?

When hiring employees, I like to consider the whole person, those qualities that make them, them. As a prior business owner, I respect the task of trying to find great staff. As an educator, I believe people can be trained almost anything, but a lot comes down to character and personality. So who am I? I am a team player, leader, supportive, dedicated, organized, approachable, fair with a dedication to education, strategy, knowledge and wisdom; I am conservative and grateful for what life has given me in its gifts and lessons. I graduated at 16, the first in my family to go to college, my wish would be for every child to have the hometown experience I had growing up. I've been involved in community projects, diversity programs, women’s and veterans’ programs thru my business, university position and/or as an individual.

I am confident, loyal, assertive and decisive and have a true thirst for knowledge. I strive to learn from others and apply those lessons to my life. Family, friends, and community are very important to me. I believe in a strong family, community, economy and country.

Challenges Teach Us Our True Potential.....WIth Leadership Comes Responsiblity but also Risks

We live in a world of Googling.....

Trying to decide if a person is a good fit for your company is difficult, you Google them, trying to find out who they are? Perhaps you will find my business won the 2008 National Main Street Business Award. A start up, I took from a 600 square foot space to a 2000 foot retail space, complete with a classroom space, webinar classes in over 30 topics and a 2500 item store dedicated to diversity of peaceful faiths, alternative healing, artists, a community meeting place and more. Maybe you find out about my business and personal community involvement.

In 7 years of owning my own business and working at the University, I had over 60+ employees and subordinates. Many danced at my recent wedding; others have come to visit me recently in Orlando , after many years, were still friends. One young woman, a minor, her parents unable to care for her, I adopted, she is my daughter.

Perhaps you will find I was physically attacked at my business, but I took a day off, got up and went to work the following day, even expanding my business. Or perhaps you will notice my picture above is 100 pds lighter than some of the images on the web; after a terrible accident, I made a full recovery which took 2 years of physical therapy, but I gained a lot of weight from medications and limited movement, but again, I got up, went to the gym, pushed myself, and a year later I was down to my healthy weight that I maintain. Lastly, sadly, perhaps you also found comments made by two disgruntle employees about me/business. In the real world, you build relationships with people, in virtual world, the character of a person is easily attacked or inflated. So I implore you to look at all the good things on my resume, my references, meet me, get to know me. No one can control others, only the choices we ourselves make.

All I can tell you is I am my own person, respect boundaries and would be respectful and dedicated to your projects and business as it is my own; a former supervisor once said about me, “If you're not giving 110%, I know something is wrong.” I want to work, to contribute, to be part of a team, meet me, hire me. Thank you.

Privacy, Ethics and Social Media

I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about Privacy, Ethics and Social Media.  Privacy - You may have noticed my legal name and certain info have been omitted from my online resume. In today's society, I believe it is our responsibility to take steps to protect our identity. Therefore, I have tried to limit any information on my website that may be used for the purpose of identity thief. Additional info will be provided on the application and when we meet. Ethics and Social Media - I am quite proficient at using social media, e-marketing and have over 1100 followers on face book. However, I don’t use my legal name on Face book, as privacy and the concern of identity fraud are very important. That same level of consideration would extend to my employers. I do not believe any employee has the right to put information about their employer on face book or any social media. By belief and practice is the employer/employee relationship is one of faith and mutual respect. An employer hired you because they had faith and respect for your abilities and experience. An employee should respect the opportunities given and always present themselves as professionals, which includes no gossiping in any public realm.
